It looks like Universal’s Happy Death Day sequel will be ensuring there’s plenty of red next Valentine’s Day. Deadline reports the sequel to Blumhouse’s 2017 hit has officially received the title Happy Death Day 2U, and made reservations for a February 14th, 2019 release date. If the first Deadpool proved anything with its Valentine’s Day 2016 weekend release, it’s that audiences don’t mind a little on-screen blood and violence on date night.
Stars Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard will be returning for the Happy Death Day 2U, along with newcomers Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin. Christopher Landon has returned as director, and also penned the script for Happy Death Day 2U.
The film is said to have a Back to the Future 2 approach retracing the steps of the original Groundhog Day-style slasher flick, which is bound to lead to some pretty entertaining shenanigans. There is already talk of a dead character from the first film getting revived for the sequel.
Could the release date be hinting that things are going well for Tree and Carter (besides being stalked by a deranged psychopath)? We’ll see if love or death is in the air next Valentine’s Day.
