Over a Twitter Q&A, producer Jason Blum (of Blumhouse fame) revealed that the sequels for both Happy Death Day and The Gallows have already been filmed and – from the vague sounds of it – are finished production.

Plans for a sequel to Happy Death Day had been announced months ago with the stars of the first film returning for part two. Director Christopher Landon (who shared his story in a stellar interview as part of our Horror Pride Month series in June) has also returned to both write and direct the sequel.

According to Collider’s interview with Jessica Rothe (who plays the film’s protagonist Tree Gelbman), the sequel will have a bit of a Back to the Future 2 flair in which we step in to the story directly after first film left off.

Happy Death Day 2 will reportedly retrace events from the previous film with characters from different timelines interacting with one another. Ruby Modine will reprise her role as Lori Spengler.

As stated by Jason Blum, some of the team have already seen an early cut of the film.

Blum also teased a tentative release date (release period?) for The Gallows Act II. Though critics were not particularly fond of The Gallows, it was certainly a commercial success. The film grossed over $42 million worldwide on a modest $100,000 production budget.

The sequel will follow an aspiring actress who transfers to a prestigious new school and encounters a malevolent spirit after participating in a viral challenge.

So there you have it. I guess we can start to keep an eye out for trailers. We’ll be sure to share once they’ve landed.
