Halloween’s Will Patton has entered the DC Universe.  Patton has been cast as the main villain in Swamp Thing, the upcoming streaming drama series that’s being produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Warner Bros. television.

Deadline reports that Patton will play Avery Sunderland, a Louisiana businessman whose charitable veneer masks a ruthless determination to mine the power of the titular swamp for his own gain.  Patton stars alongside Crystal Reed, who plays Abby Arcane, the show’s main protagonist, and Virginia Madsen, who plays Avery’s wife, Maria, who doesn’t share her husband’s obsession and forms a bond with Reed’s character.

The series follows Abby Arcane as she investigates a mysterious swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana.  While investigating the origin of the virus, Abby soon discovers that the swamp contains horrifying, mystical secrets.

Swamp Thing, which is based on the DC comic book characters that were created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, joins Titans and its upcoming spinoff, Doom Patrol, on the DC Universe schedule.  Swamp Thing’s pilot episode was directed by Len Wiseman, who also serves as an executive producer on the series.

The pilot episode was written by Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheiden.  The first episode of this new incarnation of Swamp Thing is set to air sometime in May 2019.
