As we reported earlier here on iHorror, Michael Myers is making a triumphant return to the big screen. When the news broke, we didn’t know which universe the movie would be set in. Would it give credence to the original two films, Halloween 4, 5 and 6; or are we entering the realm of Rob Zombie once more? Well I think we finally have a solid answer as ShockTilYouDrop first announced the fabulous news that Halloween Returns has confirmed the sheriff in the new movie is a familiar face. Gary Hunt whom you may remember as Sheriff Brackett’s deputy from Halloween 2, and will follow the events from the original first two movies.

I’m only assuming the child of the cop I mentioned in the previous article will be the spawn of Gary Hunt, and I can’t even express my overwhelming joy that this film is getting back to it’s roots ladies and gents. It’s been a long time coming; and sorry Zombie lovers, Rob isn’t attached to this film. As mentioned earlier, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the writers behind a number of the Saw and The Collector films, have written the script, which is said to offer “a terrifying new installment of the classic franchise.” Dunstan is also directing while Malek Akkad is set to produce with Matthew Stein as executive producer. Filming is slated to begin next month in July! In that case, we might be seeing this long awaited film as early as Halloween 2016. No word if Hunter Von Leer will actually reprise the role as Hunt, but here’s hoping!

Are you excited for the direction this movie is going? Sound off in the comments and let your voices be heard. Check out this infamous scene below from the 1981 classic in a rare TV version that aired on the Chiller network featuring Gary Hunt and a toasty Ben Tramer.
