It seems that Halloween Kills is going to just coincidentally mirror a lot of our going ons. Blumhouse films have increasingly been all about that social commentary. The newest Halloween film looks to be more of that carefully-crafted timeliness.
David Gordon Green talked to Empire and revealed some plot points of the upcoming Michael Myer’s slasher. He revealed that Halloween Kills is about paranoia and crowd panic leading to mob mentality. It even goes into the all too familiar arena of misinformation.
This tracks perfectly. Last we saw Michael he was trapped in a Laurie Strode’s hellish firetrap. But, we all knew that Myers would once again escape. This suspicion was made real when we heard Myers breathing going into the end credits.
Now, I’m speculating but… Haddonfield is sure to be losings its mind with the idea of Michael Myers roaming around… or possibly roaming around. Also, how much of the easily influenced might come to believe that the Strodes are to blame for Myers coming to town? All that could definitely lead to a wild mob mentality due to misinformation.
“This film is about community fear, paranoia, misinformation and crowd panic, this movie is a great popcorn genre movie and not really any kind of statement, but it’s strange how things line up. It couldn’t be a more interesting time to release a movie like this.” Green told Empire.
So, don’t get too worried that the film will get weighed down with the big heavy commentary. It is still a slasher at heart. Personally, horror with a message has always been the best horror… but that’s a whole other conversation.
In the new photo, we see Myers escaping the Strode house, but if you look closely he is carrying a halligan. Those suckers are used by firemen to pry open locked doors during fires. So all signs there point to Micheal meeting an unlucky fireman in the basement, and then using that halligan to pry his way out and, I’m certain he will additionally use it to smash a head or two for good measure. Poor, poor firemen.
