The folks over at WarnerMedia TV have been extra busy coming up with a lineup for HBO MAX lately. Today, Variety shared our very first image from the upcoming animated series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and it did nothing but make us want this in our eyeballs a lot sooner than later.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogway acts as a prequel to Joe Dante’s Gremlins. In fact, this one takes place decades prior to Dante’s film. It is set in Shanghai in the 1920s. The series focuses on an adolescent Sam Wing and will reveal how he met Gizmo and the Mogwai.
Okay, get me a bag of ice, because that story setup is already warming my cold, dead heart.
The official synopsis for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai goes like this:
In the animated television adaptation, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
Sounds pretty swell. The series is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation and will stream exclusively on HBO MAX.
