Whatever your opinion on the current season of AMC’s The Walking Dead, the series remains one of the most talked about on TV. Sometimes that chatter is more negative than positive, but it’s still passionate.
The same tends to hold true – albeit to a lesser degree – for TWD’s spinoff prequel Fear the Walking Dead, which looks at different characters in a different location during an earlier stage of the zombie outbreak.
Will AMC ever make another Walking Dead spinoff series? That remains to be seen, but if they do, producer Greg Nicotero has an idea for said potential spinoff that he’s very keen to see become a reality.
One thing neither current Walking Dead series has tackled is a zombie apocalypse set during the winter time. Nicotero would like to see that change, and here’s his full quote on the subject, given to Fandom.
“The one thing that the comic book does great [is] when they introduce the cold weather and the winter,” said Nicotero. “I had even written some webisodes that took place with a frozen zombie herd. And I think that our hopes are — my hopes — would be that we would get into an entirely different location, like a cold weather scenario. Because frozen zombies are f–ing awesome. Until they thaw out and then you’re screwed. Because they would freeze and thaw out, and they would be fine.”
I gotta agree with Nicotero. Not only do frozen zombies sound badass, but it would also be interesting to see how the human survivors manage to survive the elements. Plus, anyone who’s seen Dead Snow knows that zombies in winter can be awesomely fun.
That said, hopefully the frozen zombies wouldn’t be shambling around singing “Let It Go.” We all got sick of that infernal song five years ago, and the zombie’s voices would probably sound pretty rough after all the faces they’ve eaten.
