A Ghost in the Shell movie has been talked about for quite some time and about a year has passed since we heard anything about the Dreamworks’ live adaptation, but today Variety let the cat out of the bag that Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, has been cast to star in the picture directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), written by Bill Wheeler with Avi Arad and Steven Paul producing and Mark Sourian executive producing.
Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell was first published in 1989 by Kodansha, one of the largest publishing companies in Japan. The story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.
I remember catching the anime growing up and I really dug it. It will be interesting to see the film come together, costumes and sets for this highly imaginative world.
