Last month it was revealed that Adam Wingard’s (You’re Next) The Woods was actually a new Blair Witch movie, which I am looking forward to. I think he’s one of the most talented horror directors out there today and a Blair Witch movie from him is sure to be frightfully amazing. As the release date gets closer, Lionsgate has released more TV spots to entice you… and to scare you. One of which actually embarks inside the house and the other is an interesting little bit on the backstory of the first Blair Witch film. Blair Witch stars James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, and Wes Robinson.
A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
The Blair Witch Project, which hit theaters on July 30th 1999, revived and arguably popularized the found footage genre and had some of the best viral marketing I can recall. Remember how people actually thought it happened and the actors couldn’t appear on the late night TV talk shows until long after the film’s premiere to keep the rumor buzzing? That was pretty awesome. Watch Blair Witch in theaters this September 16th!
