Yo JOE! It seems like we have been waiting entirely too long for a good G.I. Joe Game, 80s kids. Over the years, there have been a few mediocre attempts. Most notably, 1991 saw Nintendo attempt to give us a Joe based game. It was okay. Not great, kinda horrible in retrospect. Now, GameMill Entertainment and Hasbro have paired to bring us G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout and it actually looks pretty good. I mean, just try to tell me Cobra Commander’s cape doesn’t look cool blowing in the wind.
I’m trying to remain cautiously optimistic here, but I can’t help but be a bit excited about this title. I’m a huge G.I. Joe fan and this game allows you to play as multiple characters from the G.I. Joe universe. Best of all, it lets us play as Cobra! That’s right Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness and more!
The official description of the game goes like this:
G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is a team-based third-person shooter where you play as your favorite characters from Team G.I. Joe and Team Cobra. Experience the action from both sides as you help G.I. Joe restore order and lead Cobra to world domination.
There is also a pretty cool looking multiplayer mode and a co-op mode! As someone who spent summers of my youth building G.I. Joe forts and collecting tons of Joe and Cobra figures, I can’t frickin wait.
G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout comes to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One on October 13.
