With four episodes still remaining in the first season of What We Do in the Shadows, FX has announced that the series has been renewed for a second season.
Based on the film by the same name created by Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement, the series brings audiences, reality-TV style, into the lives of a coven of quirky vampires on Staten Island.
The series has been lauded for its creative story-telling and the sheer hilarity of the household.
Traditional vamps Nando (Kayvan Novak), the Ottoman and self-appointed leader, and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry), a fiendishly hilarious couple, are joined by energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksh) and Nando’s familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) in a renewed quest for world domination.
According to Deadline and FX, the show has ranked in the top five cable comedies of 2019 with a reported 2.81 million viewers.
There’s very little reason to wonder why What We Do in the Shadows has been a success, however. Clement created the series and both he and Waititi have directed episodes in the first season.
Clement’s approach expanded on ideas from the the duo’s original film in ways that appealed to established fans, and served to bring in new viewers, as well.
The final four episodes of season one of What We Do in the Shadows will continue to air in its 10 pm, Wednesday night time slot over the next four weeks, and season two is expected to air in 2020!
