Arguably sparked by the huge success of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy back in 2010, the last few years have played host to the rise of a relatively new sub-genre: the feature-length horror documentary. We’ve seen Crystal Lake Memories tell the story of Jason, we’ve explored the world of Return of the Living Dead in More Brains, and we’ve delved into The Psycho Legacy.
Next up on the docket for the documentary treatment is the cult classic 1985 vampire film Fright Night. Entitled You’re So Cool Brewster: The Story of Fright Night, this new project comes to us from the same team behind Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II, which finally becomes available to pre-order on DVD tomorrow.
You’re So Cool Brewster is being produced with the full cooperation of Fright Night’s writer/director Tom Holland, and is intended to function as both the ultimate Fright Night companion piece and a tribute to the film’s late, great co-star Roddy McDowall. YSCB will feature retrospective interviews with Fright Night’s cast and crew, as well as previously unseen footage and stills from Holland’s personal archives. In short, this sounds like a dream come true for Fright Night fans.
You’re So Cool Brewster’s makers have yet to clarify whether the documentary will include any discussion of the often maligned direct-to-video sequel film Fright Night Part 2, but it doesn’t seem likely that it’ll be brought up. Holland didn’t work on it, and everyone involved seems to consider it somewhat of an old shame. So if you’re one of the few fans of that sequel, looks like you’re out of luck.
You’re So Cool Brewster: The Story of Fright Night is slated for a 2016 release.
