Shudder has secured writer/director Ryan Kruger’s Fried Barry for all of its domestic and international territories. The South African horror/thriller is set to debut on May 6, 2021.
The film’s official synopsis from IMDb reads:
Barry is a drug-addled, abusive bastard who – after yet another bender – is abducted by aliens. Barry takes a backseat as an alien visitor assumes control of his body and takes it for a joyride through Cape Town. What follows is an onslaught of drugs, sex and violence as our alien tourist enters the weird and wonderful world of humankind. Fried Barry is based upon the short film of the same name, which earned 57 official selections and 12 wins at festivals around the world.
Newcomer Gary Green takes on the title role and is joined by Brett Williams (Raised by Wolves), Joey Cramer (Flight of the Navigator), Sean Cameron Michael (Black Sails), Chanelle de Jager (Jimmy in Pienk), and Hakeem Kae-Kazim (The Fourth Kind).
“Fried Barry is going to blow people’s minds when it hits Shudder. It’s a bold, creative film from the delightfully demented yet visionary mind of Ryan Kruger and unlike anything else you’ll see this year,” Craig Engler, general manager of Shudder, said in a statement quoted by Deadline.
Kruger has previously directed primarily shorts films and music videos.
