Five Nights at Freddy’s was an independent survival horror game for the PC that put the player in control of a security guard and through his eyes you watched mascot animatronics come to life via security cameras as they made their way to the control room and try to kill you. As your power depletes from watching these cameras, controlling an outside light to see if one of them was lurking and slamming a steel door on them to protect yourself, you struggled to stay alive from midnight until 6 a.m.
The gameplay mechanic was very simple, yet effective and the atmosphere of a children’s Chuck E Cheese like pizzaria being your tomb as footsteps and singing echoed through the rundown place scared the willies out of us. The game was affordable, fun and frightening, so as with most horror related things, a sequel would be inevitable… not that I am complaining.
Browsing on YouTube this week, I happened to notice that recommended for me was an official trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and much to my surprise, it wasn’t fanmade. This thing is real! The game isn’t due out until 2015 sometime, possibly early, and there are no details surrounding the plot or what’s happening, but from the trailer you can make a few assumptions: First off, Freddy and friends have been rebuilt and slightly redesigned and so has the pizzeria. Not only that, but the place appears to be clean and in working order, leaving me to believe that someone has decided to reopen the business. I could be wrong on this next thing, but it looks like the security doors that kept you oh so safe are gone… however in place of your protection is the ability to hide in a costume (or at least put an animatronic head over yours). After all, Freddy and friends want to put you in a costume.
As soon as I know more about this, you will too. I’m keeping a close eye on this one. Until then, check out the official trailer and check out the Steam Greenlit page.
