Once again, Freddy Krueger will be joining the cast of Mortal Kombat X. This time, on mobile!
According to NetherRealm Studios’ Twitter account, update 1.11 includes the playable character of Freddy Krueger, as well as a whole bunch of other goodies. In particular, there’s also a really cool version of Scorpion. You can see all of the new updates in a video below thanks you YouTuber ramrock19.
Here’s the kicker, though – it’s remake Freddy. Again. Jackie Earle Haley’s version of the character was available in the previous game, and this time is no different. While many may groan and shake their heads in disgust, I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world. After all, you’re still getting to play as Freddy Krueger. And I’ll be honest…I kind of think he actually looks better in the game than he does in the movie. Do you?
You can play as Jason, and now you can play as Freddy. This is a horror gamer’s dream come true. And even if you’re still not a fan of this particular depiction of Freddy Krueger, you still have a really awesome new skin for Scorpion. Come on – he looks bad ass.
Will we ever get to see Robert Englund’s Krueger in a Mortal Kombat game? To be honest, I don’t think so. I would go out on a limb and say that this probably has something to do with those pesky things called “rights” and “licensing”, and given the fact that Englund has repeatedly stated that he is done with the character, it doesn’t seem likely that fans will ever get this.
Don’t take this as a complaint, though. As they say, “it is what it is!” I’m just happy to be able to slice up my enemies as Krueger on my mobile phone finally. Isn’t that what we all want?
