The Walking Dead universe has been lumbering ever forward since 2010 on television, with plans for the show and its spinoffs to continue for at least another ten years. And just in case you thought that these were simply rumors, we’ve just learned via THR that a third television series is currently “in active development.”
Chief Operating Officer of AMC Ed Carroll said as much recently. “We’re not yet at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere. But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series.”
Viewership and ratings are currently at an all-time low for both The Walking Dead and the first spinoff series Fear The Walking Dead, but Carroll isn’t worried about this. He added:
“We are well aware that when a show has been around for nine years, you’d expect the viewership to be declining. But we’ve managed it … The world of The Walking Dead is strong and vital and filled with potential in many, many different forms”
It is also crucial to keep in mind that despite the drop in viewings and ratings, US ad revenue has actually raised its earnings as of late. And yeah, it is still the number one most-watched show on cable.
Despite the speed of the show’s zombies, The Walking Dead isn’t slowing down anytime soon. On top of this third show, there are three original AMC films planned starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes.
Are you tired of The Walking Dead yet? If not, you should have more than enough material coming your way to keep you satisfied.
