New ‘Creepshow’ Anthology TV Series in the Works With Shudder

Creepshow Shudder

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, we can expect to see a new anthology series coming to Shudder. The horror-focused streaming service will be pairing with The Walking Dead executive producer and makeup effects guru Greg Nicotero to make a revamped TV version of the 1982 cult classic, Creepshow.

Directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, Creepshow was a brilliant blend of two of the strongest voices in horror. With its memorable makeup effects by Tom Savini and a roster of talented actors such as Leslie Nielsen, Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Harris, and Ted Danson, the heartfelt homage to 1950s horror comics still has a strong place in the hearts of horror fans.

A statement to Entertainment Weekly from Shudder’s general manager, Craig Engler, shares the company’s enthusiasm for the project:

Creepshow is one of the most beloved and iconic horror anthologies from two masters of the genre, George A. Romero and Stephen King,” said Engler, “We’re thrilled to continue their legacy with another master of horror, Greg Nicotero, as we bring a new Creepshow TV series exclusively to Shudder members.”

Nicotero is is attached to executive produce and supervise the show’s creative elements. The first episode will be directed by Nicotero (whose company, KNB EFX Group, will provide creature and makeup effects for the series) with each subsequent, new and original episode of the anthology series directed by a different filmmaker.

Nicotero has a personal connection to Creepshow and the minds behind it – he first met makeup effects king Tom Savini (Nicotero’s mentor) on a tour of the Creepshow set and later worked with George A. Romero on projects like Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead. In a quote to Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero explains that it’s “a project very close to my heart”.

Shudder recently made news after the wild popularity of the Joe Bob Briggs-hosted 24 hour marathon temporarily crashed the streaming service. That speaks to the great success of the event and bodes well for future opportunities – it’s probably safe to assume that they’ll be well prepared for any upcoming high-traffic programming.

The new Creepshow series is slated to premiere on Shudder some time in 2019. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with any news as we hear it.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
