9 Movies to Stay Inside for On the 4th of July

Published

on

Happy 4th of July everybody! Today is the day of grilling, family, and somehow being allowed to light fireworks after copious amounts of alcohol. Or, if you’re dealing with weather like mine, stuck in the house and looking for things to do. Whether the weather put a damper on your holiday or you just don’t understand the annual pyromania, I’ve put together a list of the most patriotic and 4th of July friendly horror movies that I could find.

Some are classics that take place on the fourth, some are just so damn patriotic that I couldn’t leave them out and some are political and are included because I can. So, why wait? Let’s light this Roman candle…

Independence Day (1996)

4th of Juy

If you thought this list wasn’t going to include this movie, you were sorely mistaken. The year that I don’t watch this movie on the 4th of July is the year we don’t have televisions because actual aliens invaded and destroyed the world. Plus, if you have an opportunity to watch Jeff Goldblum, you do it!

Jaws (1975)

4th of July

C’mon guys, how could I forget this one? Just like Predator is the perfect Valentine’s Day movie, Jaws is the perfect 4th of July movie. What better way to beat the heat and noise of the holiday than to watch a movie scary enough to make you afraid to ever get in the water again.

Uncle Sam (1996)

4th of July

We want you!…..to watch this movie if you haven’t. It’s completely underrated and the moral of the story? Don’t be unpatriotic on the grave of a fallen vet, lest he come back and learn you a thing or two. Get to know this movie better here.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

Not patriotic but it starts on the 4th of July, so it’s getting included, dammit! This is a 90’s classic slasher and a good inclusion to the list. So, “What are you waiting for!?” Oh, and don’t party and drive tonight, people. If you want to read more on this summer classic, check out this article.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

So much patriotism! So many vampires! No bloodsucking fiend is going to take over the United States of America, not if our 16th president has anything to do with it.

The Bay (2012)

What starts out as a peaceful small town 4th of July Crab Festival turns deadly when a deadly illness breaks out and a reporter catches all of it on tape. I made the mistake of watching this movie alone and I haven’t eaten crab since.

You Are Not Alone (2014)

4th of July

Some people love this movie, some people hate it. Wherever you lie on the line of this movie, you can decide. It takes place over 4th of July weekend when a sick killer stalks a visiting college student. And that’s why I just stay home.

Return of the Living Dead (1985)

4th of July

While most of the movie takes place on July 3rd, it ends on July 4th and man, were those fireworks big. This was an obvious addition for fans of the undead.

The Purge movies (2013-16)

4th of July

While Purge Day is in March in the movies, it’s making the list. This one film red, white, and blew up into a franchise. The latest movie is strongly political and nothing says current ‘Murica than politics. So these movies are the “Y” vowel of the holiday lists: some people include it and some don’t.

It’s safe to say that this list will get you through the fireworks and the family interactions. Have a safe and happy 4th of July everybody!

Arcadian Movie Trailer

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has given this film an “R” rating for its “bloody images,” hinting at the visceral and intense experience awaiting viewers. The film draws inspiration from acclaimed horror benchmarks like “A Quiet Place,” weaving a post-apocalyptic tale of a father and his two sons navigating a desolate world. Following a catastrophic event that depopulates the planet, the family faces the dual challenge of surviving their dystopian environment and eluding mysterious nocturnal creatures.

Joining Nicolas Cage in this harrowing journey are Jaeden Martell, known for his role in “IT” (2017), Maxwell Jenkins from “Lost in Space,” and Sadie Soverall, featured in “Fate: The Winx Saga.” Directed by Ben Brewer (“The Trust”) and penned by Mike Nilon (“Braven”), “Arcadian” promises a unique blend of poignant storytelling and electrifying survival horror.

‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3’ Is a Go with Enhanced Budget and New Characters

Winnie the Pooh 3

Wow, they’re churning things out fast! The upcoming sequel “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3” is officially moving forward, promising an expanded narrative with a larger budget and the introduction of beloved characters from A.A. Milne’s original tales. As confirmed by Variety, the third installment in the horror franchise will welcome Rabbit, the heffalumps, and the woozles into its dark and twisted narrative.

This sequel is a part of an ambitious cinematic universe that reimagines children’s stories as horror tales. Alongside “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” and its first sequel, the universe includes films such as “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”, “Bambi: The Reckoning,” and “Pinocchio Unstrung”. These movies are set to converge in the crossover event “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” slated for a 2025 release.

Winnie the Pooh Poohniverse

The creation of these films was made possible when A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s book “Winnie-the-Pooh” entered the public domain last year, allowing filmmakers to explore these cherished characters in unprecedented ways. Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffrey Chambers, of Jagged Edge Productions, have led the charge in this innovative endeavor.

The inclusion of Rabbit, heffalumps, and woozles in the upcoming sequel introduces a new layer to the franchise. In Milne’s original stories, heffalumps are imagined creatures resembling elephants, while woozles are known for their weasel-like characteristics and a penchant for stealing honey. Their roles in the narrative remain to be seen, but their addition promises to enrich the horror universe with deeper connections to the source material.
