The city of Lake Worth, Florida is trying to explain why they sent out a zombie alert during a power outage that darkened the city on Sunday. No joke.

The alarm, probably came from a trolling fan of the show The Walking Dead because at about 1:45 am, people read the following, “zombie alert for Lake Worth and Terminus.”

Zombie nerds know that Terminus is a city from the popular AMC zombie drama. The warning doubled-down on its apocalyptic tone later in the alert:

“THERE ARE NOW FAR LESS THAN SEVEN THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY CUSTOMERS INVOLVED DUE TO EXTREME ZOMBIE ACTIVITY.”

City officials aren’t sure how or why the undead are mentioned, but they are looking into it.

Officially they had to reassure people that in fact, zombies were not taking over the city.

“I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message,” The city’s public information officer Ben Kerr said.
