If Pet Sematary taught us anything, it’s that dead is sometimes better. In the film, a dead cat was of course brought back to life, and now, it seems, life is imitating art…

As reported by ABC 7, a Florida cat by the name of Bart was hit by a car nearly one week ago, which badly mutilated him. The poor little guy was showing no signs of life and so his owner buried his body in the backyard, all signs pointing to his feline companion crossing over to the other side.

Miraculously – or horrifically, depending on how you look at it – Bart showed up in a neighbor’s yard five days after his burial, bearing the scars of the accident but otherwise being very much alive. Somehow, he crawled out of his own grave, surviving the accident and subsequent burial with only a broken jaw and a busted eye.

He had dug himself out of the grave and slowly made his way back home, albeit in weak, dehydrated and in need of medical attention,” said the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

The society, which is currently rehabilitating Bart, says he’s in a whole lot of pain at the moment, and cannot eat due to his broken jaw. Surgery to wire his jaw and remove his damaged eye is taking place this week, and they expect that the so-called zombie cat will make a full recovery.

We wish you the best on your road to recovery, Bart. Just don’t… bite anyone. Please?
