We unfortunately have to wait until October for the return of Rick and friends in Season 6 of The Walking Dead, but this summer brings another little treat in the form of spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead. Airing on AMC, the show will center on new characters and storylines, expanding upon the zombie-infested world presented in the main show.

The exciting thing about Fear the Walking Dead is that it’s set to document the early days of the apocalypse, showing us some of the things that went on while Rick Grimes was asleep in that hospital bed. The first season of the new show, comprised of six one-hour episodes, will sink its teeth into AMC later this summer.

While we wait, the network just released a brief teaser trailer for the shows they’ve got headed our way in the remainder of 2015, and contained within was a little snippet from Fear the Walking Dead. It’s not much but this is the first video footage we’ve actually seen from the show, so we figured you’d want to check it out.

Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and David Alpert from The Walking Dead are executive producers of the new series, which, like the original, is being produced by AMC Studios. Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy), who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, is an executive producer and showrunner.

Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey have been cast, with Dillane playing the woman’s son, who has battled a drug problem, and Debnam Carey playing the woman’s ambitious daughter. The still-growing cast also includes Cliff Curtis and Kim Dickens.

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president.
