Actress Sydney Lemmon has just been announced as part of the cast of the new Firestarter adaptation produced by Blumhouse, Universal Pictures, and Weed Road Pictures. The actress will play Vicky McGee, mother to Charlie McGee and wife to Andy McGee.
Lemmon joins previously announced Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile), Michael Greyeyes (Wild Indian), Ryan Armstrong (It: Chapter Two), and Gloria Reuben (City on a Hill).
Firestarter tells the story of young Charlie McGee, a psychically gifted child able to control fire with the power of her mind. Charlie’s parents Andy and Vicky took part in experiments run by The Shop, a mysterious shadow organization, while in college which saw them walk away with their own psychic gifts, but they never could have imagined the power their daughter might have.
Once the shop is aware of Charlie and her gifts, they will stop at nothing to track her down and possess her in the hopes of weaponizing her, all except John Rainbird, a mercenary who manipulates his way into Charlie’s life on the promise that he’ll be able to kill her once the experiments are done.
Firestarter is based on the novel by Stephen King and was previously adapted for film in the 80s starring a young Drew Barrymore in the role of Charlie McGee.
Lemmon has appeared in Fear the Walking Dead, Succession, and Velvet Buzzsaw. Most recently she starred in Hulu’s Helstrom as Ana Helstrom.
Firestarter is directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil) based on a script by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills).
