In the last few years, it’s become a bit fashionable online to slam The Walking Dead, and wonder why it hasn’t been canceled yet. To the dismay of the hater brigade though, AMC has no plans to discontinue the post-apocalyptic zombie franchise.

Thankfully, many fans would argue that The Walking Dead season 9 has proven to be a welcome revamp of the series, despite the loss of key characters like Rick Grimes and Maggie Rhee. The Walking Dead season 9 aired its finale last night.

Franchise devotees won’t have to go too long without flesh-eating goodness though, as AMC is gearing up to premiere Fear the Walking Dead season 5 on June 2nd. This season will see Walking Dead character Dwight (Austin Amelio) join the cast.

Walking Dead’s loyal Savior turned reluctant ally to Daryl, Rick, and friends joins a Fear the Walking Dead cast that already includes another Walking Dead mainstay in Morgan (Lennie James). One wonders who else ultimately makes the jump between shows.

After a mostly well-received Walking Dead season 9, here’s hoping Fear the Walking Dead season 5 is able to maintain the franchise’s positive momentum. AMC has said it plans to keep things going for at least another ten years, after all.
