Even as AMC prepares to bring The Walking Dead to a close, the network announced today that the series’ first spin-off Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for its seventh season.

The announcement comes at the halfway mark of season six of the series. The network broke the news on Twitter.

Fear the Walking Dead began its run in 2015 and focused on survivors of the zombie apocalypse in the Los Angeles area trying to stay alive.

It was only a couple of months ago, that AMC announced that The Walking Dead would be coming to a close with a (very) extended final season that will see its finale in 2022. They also announced a third planned spin-off of the series at that time that will focus specifically on fan favorites Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride). That series will debut in 2023. There is also talk of at least on standalone film based around Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

There is no word yet where season seven will see the cast of Fear the Walking Dead, but we’ll definitely be tuning in!
