Kevin Laymon didn’t set out to win awards when he wrote his novel Emotive. He just wanted to tell an original story in a way we’ve never seen. Doing so put him on the radar of this year’s Fear Awards, and it just so happens he won.
Emotive tells the story of Linus, just an everyday, loyal dog who loves his owner, Sam, in the way that only a dog can. That fact that Sam is a serial killer who murders women in the basement…well, he’s still his owner and he loves him.
It’s an interesting dynamic and point of view, and one that has brought Laymon a great deal of attention.
“Telling this story through a dog’s point of view just made sense for a lot of reasons. Linus embodies innocence while Sam is a monster,” the author says. “I have a real passion for animals and wildlife, so Linus is based on some real world animals I’ve known and loved. One of the best compliments I have received about Emotive is that readers can look at their pets and see Linus. There is something authentic about his character and it allows for a horrific yet powerful story.”
The novel is now available in both digital and paperback editions from Amazon! To keep up with all of the latest news and release dates for upcoming novels, follow Kevin Laymon on Twitter @Kevin_Laymon.
