Back in 1986, David Cronenberg made one of the best horror remakes of all time, turning outdated 50s classic The Fly into an ooey, gooey practical effects extravaganza of gruesomeness. And I’m willing to bet Chad Archibald is a fan, as his next film looks to be inspired by The Fly.
The director of The Drownsman next unleashes Bite, a body-horror film that centers on a young woman who is bitten by a mysterious insect while on vacation. And all hell breaks loose from there, as she begins transforming into a monster that’s not quite human, and not quite fully insect.
Elma Begovic stars as Casey, the bride-to-be who gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect. After returning home with cold feet, Casey tries to call off her wedding, but before she’s able to, she starts exhibiting insect-like traits.
Between her physical transformation and her wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent eggs but feeds on the flesh of others. As her transformation becomes complete, Casey discovers that everything can change with a single bite.
