Event Horizon

Variety is reporting that Amazon and Paramount Television are working together with Adam Wingard (You’re Next) to create a series based on 1997’s sci-fi/horror film Event Horizon.

Wingard is reportedly set to direct the series as well as serving as an executive producer alongside Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Jeremy Platt.

The original film, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) and written by Philip Eisner (Firestarter 2: Rekindled), boasted a seriously talented cast including Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Sam Neill (In the Mouth of Madness), Kathleen Quinlan (The Hills Have Eyes), Richard T. Jones (Phone Booth), and Jason Isaacs (The OA).

Event Horizon centered on a group of astronauts sent to investigate and salvage a ship called the Event Horizon which had mysteriously disappeared years before when it entered a “black hole” that was meant to aid in quickly traveling to different points in the galaxy. Upon entering the ship, they discover the terrifying horror of where it had actually been and that it might not be as empty as it appears.

The news comes on the same day that Amazon announced it had picked up the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost paranormal horror-comedy series Truth Seekers.

As Event Horizon is classified as “in development” it may take a while before we know more about casting or exactly how this story will be adapted into a longer format.
