James Wan, Gary Dauberman Developing New ‘Salem’s Lot’ Adaptation

Salem's Lot

James Wan and Gary Dauberman have announce they will adapt Stephen King’s 1975 novel Salem’s Lot for the big screen.

The pair will both serve as producers on the project with Dauberman writing the script, as well.

This will be the first time the novel will appear on the big screen, though there have been two previous adaptations as miniseries for television.

Salem’s Lot tells the story of an author who returns to his hometown in order to deal with childhood trauma by writing about the mysterious mansion that has loomed over the town since it was first built decades before. He soon finds that the house has recently been purchased by a stranger.

Even more alarming for the author, however, is the fact that the townspeople of Jerusalem’s Lot have begun acting strangely. As pieces of the puzzle fall into place, he discovers that they are becoming vampires and it is up to him to stop the epidemic from spreading beyond the town’s borders.

David Soul and Rob Lowe have both played the central role of the author in the two previous adaptations, but it is too early to ascertain who will step into the role this time.

Dauberman and Wan have proven themselves a dynamic creative team with the Conjuring universe. Wan has both directed and produced various chapters in the franchise and Dauberman has written four of the spin-off sequels including the popular Annabelle films. He will also make his directorial debut later this year with Annabelle Comes Home.

The writer is also no stranger to the world of Stephen King, having penned the scripts for IT and IT: Chapter Two, which will also release later this year.

Salem’s Lot is very early in the development stage at this point, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, there is no word on who will direct the new adaptation.

iHorror will keep you posted on all the details as they become available.

A new trailer for the movie formerly known as Pussy Island just dropped and it has us intrigued. Now with the more restrained title, Blink Twice, this  Zoë Kravitz-directed black comedy is set to land in theaters on August 23.

The film is packed with stars including Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis.

The trailer feels like a Benoit Blanc mystery; people are invited to a secluded location and disappear one by one, leaving one guest to figure out what is going on.
