Hulu Announces Series Based on Marvel’s ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’

Hulu Ghost Rider Helstrom

In a press release this morning, Hulu announced that they would be developing two series based on Marvel properties. Though there are no specific dates beyond the announcement that they will premiere in 2020, both Ghost Rider and Helstrom will become a part of the streaming service’s original content and expand their own Marvel offerings alongside shows like Marvel’s Runaways.

Gabriel Luna, who previously took on the fiery Ghost Rider character in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is set to reprise the role in the new series. He teased the announcement yesterday on Twitter.

He also followed it up this morning after the announcement was made, this time with fire and skulls. There is no word, yet, on whether the new iteration will be tied to the previous version Reyes played on the ABC series.

Robbie Reyes aka the Ghost Rider is consumed by hellfire which he unleashes to become the titular character while protecting the innocent and punishing the wicked.

Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner for Ghost Rider, and will serve as an executive producer on the series along with Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.

While the news of Ghost Rider is pretty straight-forward, Helstrom takes a little more digging. It appears that the show will be based on the character Daimon Hellstrom aka The Son of Satan.

Hellstrom was the son of Satan and a mortal woman who, as a prince of Hell, had nearly unlimited powers.

According to the press release, the new series will change the story to include not only Daimon, but also a sister name Ana.

“Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer in Marvel’s Helstrom. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.”

There is no casting news at this time for Helstrom, but we do know that Paul Zbyszewski will serve as showrunner and executive producer with Jeph Loeb.

Both comics exist in the same universe, and though it wasn’t in the announcement, the crossover potential is strong between the two series.

iHorror will keep you posted on all the details as they become available!

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
