Bummed you never got a chance to see Gizmo on the big screen? Don’t worry, just watch the Gremlins 2: The New Batch screening tonight in Los Angeles!
Gremlins 2: The New Batch was released in 1990, six years after the original Gremlins. Joe Dante, the director of both films, will be there in person at the Egyptian Theatre introducing Gremlins 2 for the audience.
A media tycoon’s scientists want to experiment on Gizmo in New York City. Billy and Kate rescue Gizmo but he still ends up multiplying and chaos ensues because they forget to follow the rules..
Creatures like Gizmo multiply when they get wet. When they eat after midnight, they become crazed monsters. These creatures also shouldn’t be exposed to bright lights because it hurts them. (Side note: I just realized I could totally be related to Gizmo because I dislike bright lights too.)
Dante purposely wanted to go a different direction with Gremlins 2. The movie was intentionally more comedic than horror in tone, unlike the original that has more dark elements. For those reasons, some fans don’t like the sequel but the film certainly still deserves appreciation.
Catch Gremlins 2: The New Batch tonight at 7:30pm at the Egyptian Theatre, located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard. Hollywood, CA 90028. Let us know if any of you attend the screening!
