Netflix has closed a deal with Disney to acquire a trilogy of connected Fear Street films with a plan to stream the films next year in an event the streaming giant is planning titled The Summer of Fear.

Directed by Leigh Jianak and based on the popular Fear Street books by prolific author R.L. Stine, the first film begins in 1994, where a group of teens uncover dark secrets behind a series of seemingly connected events. As they dig into the mystery, they discover they might be targets, themselves. The films will cover events in multiple time periods going as far back as the 1600s.

According to Deadline, all three films are completed and were produced by Chernin Entertainment for Fox. After the studio’s acquisition by Disney Chernin was given the rights to find a new home for the projects after the possibility of a theatrical release was squashed by the pandemic. The company had signed a first-look deal with Netflix back in April and the move was a natural progression from there.

The films star Kiana Madeira (Dark Matter), Benjamin Flores, Jr. (The Haunted Hathaways), Gillian Jacobs (The Box), Ashley Zuckerman (Succession), Olivia Welch (Panic), and more.

There is no word yet on exact dates when the films will appear on Netflix, but iHorror will keep you posted as that information becomes available.
