10 Horror Movies To Look Out For In 2015

Published

on

2014 hasn’t been the best year cinematically for horror movies. With the exception of a few treasures found on Netflix and streaming elsewhere, ultimately the year for horror was pretty disappointing. However, 2015 may be more than obliged to make up for this year with a strew of flicks coming our way. Along with a batch of everyones favorite, the dreaded remakes, there are a few flicks that look original and may give us fans a huge breath of fresh air. As we sit back and watch 2014 come to an end, let’s take a look at what the upcoming year has to offer us for the horror fans for 2015.

Krampus

Release Date: December 4, 2015

krampus

While we all patiently await a sequel for Trick Or Treat, Michael Dougherty returns with another holiday themed nightmare for us to swoon over. Krampus, for those unfamiliar, is the evil counterpart to Santa Claus who deals out punishment to the naughty children. The film is Dougherty’s first directorial effort since the 2007 Halloween-themed horror anthology. Legendary Pictures recently released this virtual Christmas card to the fans promoting the movie.

I am personally excited for this one. Clearly, us horror fans really need a fresh holiday horror movie. Silent Night, Deadly Night is great and it is certainly one of the better holiday nightmare films, but it is time for something new. If anyone can give us another horror holiday masterpiece that we can watch year after year, I believe Dougherty is the man to do it.

Poltergeist (2015)

Release Date: May 22, 2015

Many seem skeptical about the upcoming remake of the 1982 blockbuster on whether or not this should have even been made. I myself am on the fence about this one; and heres’ why:

On one hand we have an absolute flawless classic that is perfect in every sense imaginable. From the acting to the imagery, A to Z this film is timeless.

On the other hand, we have Sam fucken Raimi. Grant it, it’s only in a Producer’s role, but for me personally every film he has been attached to has been brilliant. Then we have Sam Rockwell, a stunning actor. I don’t exactly know what it is about that guy, but he is an extraordinary thespian in my opinion. Something just draws me to him. ( Not in a creepy way). Although we really don’t know too much about the movie, even with the release date being so close, those two factors have caught my curiosity for the film and leads me to believe this movie has a shot at being well done.

The Woman In Black 2: Angel Of Death

Release Date: January 2, 2015

wib

When the Woman In Black arrived to us in 2012, it was surprisingly good. Picking up decades after the first film, ‘Angel of Death’ sees haunted mansion Eel Marsh is used as a refuge for young evacuees during World War 2, only to awaken to an even greater threat than the German bombs. Unfortunately Eel Marsh House happens to be a particularly bad place to take kids, since it’s haunted by a malevolent spirit that specializes in driving children to their deaths. Not completely sure if this will live up to the first being as how Radcliffe will obviously not be reprising his role, or if this is just another Hollywood sequel cash grab. I guess we will find out in a few days.

It Follows

Release Date: March 27, 2015

it-follows-poster

There seems to be the quite the buzz about this film in the horror community of it being the breakthrough horror hit for 2015. Many people who have seen the screening at various film festivals have claimed it to be one of the scariest they have seen to date. It will also screen at Sundance before its proper VOD release, so expect the buzz to continue to grow. Writer-director David Robert Mitchell’s film follows a teenage girl (Maika Monroe) who gets the eerie feeling that someone, or something, is watching her. For anyone who likes Urban Legend type stories, this would be right up your alley. We don’t really know much else other than word of mouth from reviews at Cannes Film Festival and this trailer. So this is definitely one to look out for.

Phantasam: Ravager

Release Date: SOMETIME in 2015

phantasm-600x300

Hopefully this arrives in 2015 as promised and the final installment of the long running Phantasm series.  The last Phantasm movie, Oblivion, arrived in 1998. It’s now sixteen years later and we’re talking about the fifth and presumably final entry in the series arriving next year. It has the full cast (even Angus Scrimm) and it was filmed in secret over the last 2 years. According to Entertainment Weekly: Very few plot details have been released — but according to writer Don Coscarelli, Phantasm: Ravager includes “An extended sequence on the Tall Man’s home world. Plus there are also some surprises thrown in that I promise will astonish long-time fans.”  Check out this teaser that allows us a sneek peek at the much anticipated movie. I for one, would love to see this final entry in this line of films. So I’m begging whoever is in charge, to release it already next year!

Crimson Peak

Guillermo del Toro returns to us in the Gothic horror form on which he made his name, only this time in English language production and on a Hollywood studio budget. Enlisting the star power of Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. (SWOON) I apologize for that last remark. My ovaries seem to have a mind of their own and the combo of those two weakened them a tad. Anywho, a horror thriller in the grand old “big haunted house” mode sets the plot in the aftermath of a family tragedy. An aspiring author is torn between the love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.

Del Toro called the film a “ghost story and gothic romance”. He described it as, “A very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story”, and said that it would allow him to play with the genres’ conventions while subverting their rules.

He stated, “I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. Growing up on movies like The Omen and The Shining, I wanted this to feel like a throwback.” I have more than enough faith that this movie will deliver us the goods we have been craving in the aspect of a great haunt flick.

Victor Frankenstien

Release Date: October 2, 2015

Ok so obviously that isn’t an image for the new film, but seeing as how the production is being kept so tightly under wraps, this is the best I could do. And hey you can never go wrong with Boris. Frankenstein is a movie that has been retold countless times in the movie industry; I’m not even going to acknowledge that I, Frankenstein deal they tried to throw at us. This film however, is a bit of a different spin on the Mary Shelley tale. The movie stars Daniel Radcliffe as Igor . Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today. Since Igor wasn’t in the original novel, his backstory has never really been explored in any of the Frankenstein movies. So we don’t really know much about him. The premise to me has potential and as an avid fan of the old Universal monster movies, this one is definitely on my list to see. Below is one of the few images of Radcliffe on set.

Friday The 13th

Release Date: November 13, 2015

UPDATED: TBH 2016

jason

Hard to conceive it’s been five years since the last Friday film. We have been following the progress on this film closely here at Ihorror. We previously reported here that the film is to be set in the 80’s at Crystal Lake and not another sequel or remake; but another Jason story, most likely involving his mother Pamela Vorhees with a more prominent role in this movie as reported here. Producer Brad Fuller confirmed that the last script involved Camp Crystal Lake re-opening to the public and Jason would indeed be in a snow setting for a portion of the film, which would be a first for the series being set in Winter. Plot details are slowly being leaked to us and keep tuned in to the site for any F13 breaking news.

Goosebumps

Release Date: August 7, 2015

goosebumps

Alright it’s not really horror per se, but hey we all grew up with the books, the tv series, and I don’t give a rats ass who you are; you are damn excited for it. As we stated here before, the movie has Jack Black as R.L. Stine. Stine keeps all the ghosts and monsters in the series locked up in his books. When a boy named Zach unintentionally releases the ghouls and the monsters from the storybooks, Zach, Hannah, and Stine team up in order to put the monsters back where they came from, before it’s too late. I have no reason to think that this movie won’t be any good.  I feel given the nature of the movie Black is perfect to play Stine. Also to look upon the images of the monsters in all their glory, they look amazingly up to par. The basic plot seems feasible and could be it was purposely, but it really does remind me of a Goosebumps book. They would really have to be braindead to fuck this one up. But hey, only time will tell.

Scouts Vs. Zombies

Release Date: October 30, 2015
zombie_scout-640x373

In this horror comedy from Paramount, Director/co-writer Christopher Landon of some of the Paranormal Activity films, follows a group of boy scouts who try to fend off a zombie attack in their small town. David Koechner of Anchorman fills the role of the troop leader along with Patrick Schwarzenegger who plays a tormentor of the scout troop. We haven’t really seen any theatrical zombie movies for a while, so here is hoping that Paramount gives us a fresh film about the undead. Even if the title sounds like a cheesy sci-fi flick.

Are you excited for any or all of these? Sound off in the comments below on which movie you are most looking forward to!

Trailer for ‘The Exorcism’ Has Russell Crowe Possessed

Published

on

The latest exorcism movie is about to drop this summer. It’s aptly titled The Exorcism and it stars Academy Award winner turned B-movie savant Russell Crowe. The trailer dropped today and by the looks of it, we are getting a possession movie that takes place on a movie set.

Just like this year’s recent demon-in-media-space film Late Night With the Devil, The Exorcism happens during a production. Although the former takes place on a live network talk show, the latter is on an active sound stage. Hopefully, it won’t be entirely serious and we’ll get some meta chuckles out of it.

The film will open in theaters on June 7, but since Shudder also acquired it, it probably won’t be long after that until it finds a home on the streaming service.

Crowe plays, “Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play. The film also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.”

Crowe did see some success in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist mostly because his character was so over-the-top and infused with such comical hubris it bordered on parody. We will see if that is the route actor-turned-director Joshua John Miller takes with The Exorcism.

’28 Years Later’ Trilogy Taking Shape With Serious Star Power

Published

on

28 years later

Danny Boyle is revisiting his 28 Days Later universe with three new films. He will direct the first, 28 Years Later, with two more to follow. Deadline is reporting that sources say Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have been cast for the first entry, a sequel to the original. Details are being kept under wraps so we don’t know how or if the first original sequel 28 Weeks Later fits into the project.

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes

Boyle will direct the first movie but it’s unclear which role he will take on in the subsequent films. What is known is Candyman (2021) director Nia DaCosta is scheduled to direct the second film in this trilogy and that the third will be filmed immediately afterward. Whether DaCosta will direct both is still unclear.

Alex Garland is writing the scripts. Garland is having a successful time at the box office right now. He wrote and directed the current action/thriller Civil War which was just knocked out of the theatrical top spot by Radio Silence’s Abigail.

There is no word yet on when, or where, 28 Years Later will start production.

28 Days Later

The original film followed Jim (Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to find that London is currently dealing with a zombie outbreak.
