Hardcore fans of the franchise have long been aware of the infamous Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers ‘Producer’s Cut,’ bootlegs of which have been circulating around the convention circuit for quite some time. The alternate cut has become the thing of legend, and its get an official release this year.
No, this isn’t the first time that the elusive Halloween 6 Producer’s Cut has officially arrived on home video, as last year’s Halloween: The Complete Collection set included the alternate cut, much to the delight of many. It was a big selling point for the set, though many were still begging for a standalone release.
Lionsgate answers those prayers on September 15th with a Blu-ray release of Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers – The Unrated Producer’s Cut, available for the first time on its own. So if you held off on buying the box set because it was too expensive, now is your chance to own this piece of horror history.
Packed with over 40 minutes of footage excised from the theatrical release, including an alternate ending, the Halloween 6 Producer’s Cut is an entirely different film. Per Wikipedia…
In addition to featuring a different ending which was intended to keep Donald Pleasence’s character in the films, it also features longer scenes in several parts of the movie, as well as different music at times. Major plot points differ between the two cuts. For example, in the Producer’s Cut, Jamie Lloyd is not killed by Michael’s attack in the barn; she is wounded only to be killed later on in the film by the “Man in Black” after having a dream about how she was imprisoned in Smith’s Grove. In the Producer’s Cut, Jamie’s child is revealed to be the inbred son of Michael Myers. There is also a flashback to Halloween 5 that shows Jamie and Michael kidnapped by the “Man in Black”.
