Edgar Wright’s next film, Last Night in Soho is high on our most anticipated list. The director of Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, is easily one of the finest, most enthusiastic working today. Little is known about his next film outside of a few details that creeped out a while back that described the film as having heavy Roman Polanski Repulsion and Nicolas Roeg Don’t Look Now vibes. To be honest, that alone was exciting, you guys.
Now, in a recent preview from Empire Magazine, Wright revealed a few more details that has Anya Taylor Joy and Thomasin McKenzie playing Eloise and sandy in the swinging 60s.
There’s something I have in common with the lead character in that I’m afflicted with nostalgia for a decade I didn’t live in. You think about ‘60s London – what would that be like? Imagine if you knew everything you knew now, and went back. I’m taking a premise whereby you have a character who, in a sort of abstract way, gets to travel in time. And the reality of the decade is maybe not what she imagines. It has an element of ‘be careful what you wish for’.”
From the sounds of it, Eloise and Sandy are going to be transported somehow, back to a time period they think they are going to love but instead find some sort of terror from the situation.
Last Night in Soho stars McKenzie and Taylor-Joy’s co-stars include Matt Smith, Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp. It comes with a projected release date of September 25, 2020.
