E.T.

Phone Home, y’all. That’s what the latest Comcast Xfinity short film has us feeling. The four minute E.T. based short titled, A Holiday Reunion, brings that lovable (sometimes horrifying) scamp of an extra terrestrial back to earth to visit Elliot (Henry Thomas) and his family a whole 37 years later.

I can’t tell if this is pulling at heartstrings because its a sweet reunion, or if its that it reminded me on Thanksgiving that it has been 37 frickin’ years! It may or may not have caused a deep existential crisis that may or may not have set in along with the turkey and dressing.

Either way, it’s actually pretty well done and worth the watch for fellow E.T. fans.

A shorter two-minute version will air during the Macy’s Day Parade, but you can watch the whole thing in its entirety here.

Comcast actually consulted E.T. director, Steven Spielberg during the filming of the short and did so with his blessing. Spielberg, apparently enjoyed the idea of “connection” that the short was embracing. Best of all the short has a Reese’s Pieces cameo.

After 37 years, E.T. comes back to visit his friend, Elliott, for the holidays. During his stay, E.T. learns that Elliott now has a family of his own and that technology has completely changed on Earth since his last visit.

Let us know what you guys think in the comments section and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
