Universal’s expanded world seems to still be taking shape. The Invisible Man managed to scare up enough of a place at the box office to demand it. Currently, there is a Wolfman film in the works with Ryan Gosling working within its curse and now Dracula’s henchman, Renfield joins the fray.
Director, Chris McKay has boarded Universal Picture’s Renfield outlined by Robert Kirkman and written by Ryan Ridley. The story will of course, focus on the mad assistant of the daddy of all vampires. This puts us one step closer to getting to know Dracula himself, who I imagine would have to be introduced at some point therein.
There have been famous portrayals of Renfield over the ages. One of my personal favorites being Tom Waits in Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. So, I’m sure that this will be a huge undertaking for some actor to take on. Renfield was a mad bastard who was institutionalized due to visions and hunger that was given to him by his master. The bidding that Renfield had to endure would drive any person completely out of their head.
This time around the narrative is said to be a contemporary one for a change.
The Ridley written script will be produced by Skybound Entertainment’s film team including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst.
