Fede Alvarez is making a strong name for himself in the horror game. The Uruguayan director burst onto the scene in 2013 with the Evil Dead reboot and wowed audiences in 2016 with Don’t Breathe. With the announcement that Alvarez will also helm the new Labyrinth spin off, we can tell he’s going to be busy.

To help share his passion for genre films, he has recently built a production company, Bad Hombre, with Good Universe (Don’t Breathe, The Disaster Artist). And now they’ve announced their first project – a “techno thriller” from writer Simon Barrett.

Let’s take a quick second to review the credentials here. Simon Barrett – who often teams up with director Adam Wingard – is the writer behind A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next, The Guest, Blair Witch, and segments of the V/H/S series. He’s also slated to write the American remake of one of my favorite films of all time, I Saw the Devil. He’s quickly become a heavy hitter in the horror genre and seeing his name on any writing credit should make you excited.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Eisner will direct the currently untitled film.

Jason Eisner is perhaps best known for directing the Canuxsploitation film Hobo With a Shotgun (developed from a trailer made for Grindhouse), but you may know him for his contributions to V/H/S/2 and ABCs of Death. The director also edits his own projects and provided editing for the anthology film Southbound. He’s an untapped talent and I’m thrilled to see him take on another big project.

Alvarez created Bad Hombre in February to focus on creating horror, thriller, and sci-fi films to share with a passionate audience. We can’t be sure what’s in store for us, but with this powerhouse of a genre team assembled for his first official production, we can bet it’s going to be good.

We’ll keep you posted as details are released.
