Yesterday, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp took to his social media accounts and revealed some surprising photos, which appear to show an Alien film that he was at one point secretly working on. It’s worth noting right off the bat here that the accounts aren’t verified, though that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not actually Blomkamp behind the keyboard.
Seven photos in total were uploaded to what is allegedly Blomkamp’s Instagram, showing off concept art that he and a French artist worked together on. The photos depict iconic imagery and characters from the franchise, including Ripley, Hicks and of course, a Xenomorph.
“Was working on this,” Blomkamp wrote on the first photo he uploaded. “Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.”
The director noted that this was a project he took it upon himself to begin work on, apparently without ever getting the actual approval of 20th Century Fox.
“This has nothing to do with the studio,” he continued. “I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work? They didn’t really even know I was working on it, ha.”
It’s impossible to tell whether or not these photos legitimately represent something Blomkamp was working on or not, but they’re too cool not to share. Check them out below!
Yes, that’s totally Ripley in a… Xenomorph suit?! WANT.
Sigh. What could have been!
