A24 just released a featurette online for their upcoming horror film Hereditary, and they’re making it no secret that they mean to drag you into one hellish family affair. If last week’s article about the Hereditary trailer causing a panic at an Australian movie theater wasn’t proof enough that the film is meant to be a nightmare on screen, you’ll now hear it straight from the mouth of director Ari Aster.
“Hereditary is about a family going to hell,” says Aster, “It’s a character study. That’s the heart of the film.”
Aster continues, “We wanted to make a film that stays with people. Haunts people. Like a nightmare.”
Ari Aster is, indeed, “the real deal” when it comes to plunging the audience into madness. The buzz from film festival screenings has been nothing but praise and terror. You can read iHorror’s SXSW review by Trey Hillburn III right here. Hereditary has also employed some creepy viral marketing to show off the film’s psychologically twisted side. You might even be able to scoop up your own bizarre doll made by Charlie on her Etsy page.
Watch the featurette below:
Meet Ari Aster, the mastermind behind Hereditary who's about to greatly increase the quality and intensity of your nightmares.
