After the success of Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla (the 2014 reboot, not the ’98 Hank Azaria/Matthew Broderick vehicle), production is moving forward on a sequel to Godzilla (titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters). Additionally, we’ll be getting a monster-sized face-off in the form of Godzilla vs Kong, which has just received a new casting announcement.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Julian Dennison (of Deadpool 2 and Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople) will be throwing down in the upcoming epic monster mash.
Dennison was the breakout star of Deadpool 2 and his delightful screen presence even managed to outshine Sam Neill in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, so it’s awesome to see him attached to such a big project.
Godzilla vs Kong has slated Adam Wingard to direct. Wingard is best known for his segments in the V/H/S series as well as feature films You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, The Guest, Death Note, and Blair Witch.
According to THR, the film will also see Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) join the cast. Millie Bobby Brown is currently included on the IMDb cast list, so it’s probably safe to assume that her Godzilla: King of the Monsters character, Madison Russell, has a continued storyline through to the big boss battle.
Godzilla vs Kong comes from Legendary and Warner Bros.’ Monsterverse. The film is currently set for a theatrical release on May 22, 2020.
