David Duchovny Talks X-Files Revival; Interested In More Than One Season
We’re just about 8 months away from the return of The X-Files, coming our way in the form of a limited series that premieres on Fox next January. The six-episode revival will center on beloved characters Mulder and Scully, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their iconic roles.
With shooting set to begin next month, Duchovny sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and he had some pretty exciting things to say about the new series. Not only did he mention that the scripts are fantastic, but he also says that they made him unexpectedly emotional.
“I got the first script this morning,” the actor recently told EW. “I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I’d been talking about this for a long time. We’d been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. So let’s say two years we’ve been talking about doing it. Now it’s the fun part. Now we actually get to do it.”
The most interesting takeaway from the interview, however, is that Duchovny appears to be very interested in doing more than six episodes, indicating that perhaps this revival won’t be as limited as we had originally thought.
“I would be open to doing another cycle,” Duchovny revealed. “I don’t know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.”
The first episode of the X-Files revival series will premiere at 10pm on Sunday, January 24th, 2016. The show returns the very next night for the second episode, with the subsequent four hitting Fox on Monday nights at 8pm.
Other characters making their triumphant returns in 2016 include FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner and the so-called ‘Cigarette Smoking Man.’
Series creator Chris Carter, who is again in charge, recently said that the revival will be comprised of both mythology episodes and standalone monster-of-the-week tales, in the style of the original series. Writers Glen Morgan and James Wong are also back, as is Glen’s brother Darin, writer of some of The X-Files’ best episodes.
On a related note, did you know that Season 1 of The X-Files is now available for instant streaming on Netflix, in high-definition? Can’t think of a better time to revisit the original series than right now!

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed
Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.
This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.
The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.
The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.
Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.
Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
