Do we have any fans of The Battery in here? Well, the response to that should be that everyone on the internet just raised their virtual hands simultaneously. That’s cause it’s one of the most innovative zombie films in these parts. Now, Director Jeremy Gardner brings a subverted approach to the creature feature.

The synopsis for After midnight breaks down like this:

Ten years into his small-town, storybook romance with Abby, Hank suddenly wakes up to an empty home. With nothing but a cryptic note to explain why she left, Hank’s charmed life begins to fall apart. To make matters worse, Abby’s disappearance seems to trigger the arrival of a ferocious creature that crawls out of the old grove on the edge of his property.

The best part is you come for the creature feature and awesome practical monster design, and end up staying and loving the hell out of what the rest of the film offers.
