In addition to horror movies and things related to them, we also like to cover true life stories of horror here on iHorror, and there are few things more horrifying than the idea of incarcerated madman Charles Manson getting married. I mean, after all, his whole crime was convincing women to kill people. SMH.
As we originally reported last November, it was announced that the 80-year-old Manson was set to marry 27-year-old follower Afton Elaine Burton, who has spent the last decade trying to free him. The wedding was originally going to take place in December, as the marriage license was for some insane reason approved.
In a follow-up story earlier this month, we told you that Burton’s secret reason for wanting to marry Charlie was exposed, with an insider revealing that she was in it for his corpse. Yes, his corpse. According to the journalist, Manson’s bride-to-be wanted possession of his corpse after his inevitable death, so she could display it in a glass case and charge admission to view the body.
Needless to say, it seemed as if the wedding was off. Because even Charles Manson knows that true love doesn’t mean profiting off your dead husband’s corpse. Or maybe he doesn’t actually know that…
This week, in an exclusive interview with Inside Edition, Burton insists that the wedding is still very much on, despite those recent reports. She genuinely loves Charlie, the woman claims, and nothing will stand between them.
“Yes, I am going to marry Charlie Manson! I think he’s the most handsome man in the world,” Burton excitedly exclaimed. “I could take very good care of him.”
For the past nine years, Burton has visited Manson in prison twice each week, and she says she will stay by his side whether he ever becomes a free man or not. Which is good news for Manson, because he’s sure as hell never going to be a free man again.
Can this story get any crazier? Because I’m sure it will. Give it time, friends. Give it time.
Just to give you a little refresher course on ole Charlie, he’s basically credited for single-handedly destroying the ‘hippie’ era and reminding America that people are inherently terrible, in the wake of his followers butchering seven people in the summer of 1969. Though the murders were carried out by Manson’s so-called ‘family,’ it was he who became synonymous with them, as he was the brains of the operation.
