A couple of months back we shared the Zoom chat reunion of Francis Lawrence’s Constantine adaption. Now, it appears that one of the film’s stars has spilled the satanic beans to share that there is indeed a Constantine 2 on the way.
The DC comics adaptation of Hellblazer fame was a hell of a picture, if not a divided one. When the film was released it was done so prior to the explosion of comic book movies we have today. Added to that Hellblazer fans were torn because John Constantine was British and blonde in the comics, obviously Reeves was none of those things. Recently, Matt Ryan has done a more traditionally accepted approach to the character.
The 2005 adaptation was good though. It has gained a bit of cult following over the years and perpetual rumors of there being a sequel.
Well now Peter Stormare, Satan himself shared via his socials that there is a indeed a sequel coming our way. His Instagram post simply reads “Sequel in the works.”
The synopsis for 2005’s Constantine goes like this:
“As a suicide survivor, demon hunter John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) has literally been to hell and back — and he knows that when he dies, he’s got a one-way ticket to Satan’s realm unless he can earn enough goodwill to climb God’s stairway to heaven. While helping policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) investigate her identical twin’s apparent suicide, Constantine becomes caught up in a supernatural plot involving both demonic and angelic forces.”
Stormare’s Satan was well-done. His dynamic with Reeves was very cool despite it only lasting just a couple of minutes. The film set up for a lot of world expansion that it sadly never got around to until now. Outside of Stormare’s announcement there are no other details at the moment.
