Clive Barker’s ‘Nightbreed’ Series Gets ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Director Michael Dougherty

Median is where the monsters live, you guys. We know it. You know it and you better be sure that author Clive Barker knows it. The author of Cabal, the book that lead to the film Nightbreed has long wanted to expand on Median and it looks like the time has come. Trick r’ Treat director Micheal Dougherty is onboard to bring the series to life.

Yep, we said series! While speaking with Coming Soon, Barker let out  a few details out about the series and we couldn’t be more freaking excited.

“It’s exciting, after 30 years, to go back to these characters and find out who’s still speaking to me, who wants their story told… My tongue isn’t in my cheek when I say that as when I start a piece, it’s listening. The writing is a piece of listening, I’ve always said I was a journalist, and what I was reporting on was the space between my ears.” Barker told Coming Soon.

The synopsis for 1990’s Nightbreed is as follows:

“A troubled young man is drawn to a mythical place called Midian where a variety of friendly monsters are hiding from humanity. Meanwhile, a sadistic serial killer is looking for a patsy.”

The movie is still excellent and one of Barker’s best. Best of all David Cronenberg’s portrayal of Dr. Phillip K. Decker is still one creepy role for the ages. The film received a restoration a few years back to full reveal Clive Barker’s original vision as part of the Nightbreed: Cabal Cut. However, there has a always been such a rich world within the film and book that I can totally get behind a series.

We look forward to the Nightbreed series which Barker is writing with Jigsaw writer Josh Stolberg.
