Right about now is a pretty good time to be a Chucky fan. In just over a month, on October 8th, franchise creator Don Mancini brings us Curse of Chucky, the latest installment in the Child’s Play saga that ditches the bride and the seed and is set to return Chucky back to his roots. On that same date, the entire franchise gets a Blu-ray release with Chucky: The Complete Collection, 6 discs containing all five of the previous installments as well as the brand new film. What more can us Chuck-heads ask for? Well, how about a video game?!
Developer Slimtown Studios just announced that the pint-sized ginger will indeed be making his video game debut real soon with Chucky: Slash & Dash, a game for mobile devices that for the very first time will allow us fans to control Chucky, and assist him in doing what he does best; slashing and dashing. Described as an ‘endless runner,’ a game wherein you move around a character that is perpetually running forward, the game will be available for download on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices, and you can check out the teaser trailer and full details below!
Chucky renews his quest to seek revenge in a never-ending nightmare in which he’s endlessly running through the factory that produces Good Guys dolls. Players will control Chucky while sprinting through the factory floor, the catwalks, the warehouse, or even outside, and will need to avoid conveyor belts, forklifts, acid pools, barrels and other obstacles. Chucky can also eliminate enemies patrolling the factory using his classic knife or more outlandish weapons in the arsenal, like scissors, cleavers and hatchets. As they play, gamers will collect batteries that can be used to acquire in-game items or power-ups, such as a double battery bonus, a fast start, or extra lives that can extend a run after dying.
Gameplay footage has yet to be released and no official date has been announced, but the game is listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on Slimtown Studios’ website as well as on the Chucky: Slash & Dash Facebook page. Be sure to keep your eyes on both of those pages, so you’re among the first to know when more is revealed!
You may remember that Chucky was actually supposed to be making the transition to the video game world back in 2011, with a game called Chucky: Wanna Play?. TikGames acquired the license to the franchise and we’re primed and ready to release the console game, teasing fans with ultra-gory gameplay footage that anyone would be a fool to not be excited about. Unfortunately, the company lacked the proper funding to complete the game, and a failed Kickstarter effort to raise the needed funds spelled its demise. The half a million dollars and 18 months they invested into the project was flushed down the toilet when less than $600 of the $925,000 goal was raised. TikGames cancelled the campaign well before it was supposed to end in November of 2012, once they realized there just wasn’t enough fan interest.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the same fate doesn’t befall Chucky: Slash & Dash, because we’ve waited long enough for a Chucky video game and I think we all deserve it. With the franchise experiencing a bit of a resurgence with the new installment, now’s a better time than ever!
