UCP is ready to bring our favorite killer doll to television in a newly minted deal with SYFY. Franchise creator Don Manicini along with David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus) and Nick Antosca (The Act) will executive produce Chucky.
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and SYFY is the perfect network for us,” he said. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
This is welcome news to fans who were less than pleased when news of a reboot sans Mancini was announced. Not only was he the founder of the franchise, but he has also been involved in every film since the first was released in 1988.
Mancini and the fans aren’t the only ones excited about the new venture.
“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,” said Bill McGoldrick, President, Scripted Content, NBCU Cable Entertainment. “We look forward to working with Don, David and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the CHUCKY story to television.”
And even the notorious Chucky himself weighed in saying, “In these troubled times, I believe it’s my obligation as a horror icon to reach the widest audience possible, on TV.”
I don’t know about you, but I make it a point to never argue with Charles Lee Ray.
As the deal is still fresh, there aren’t a lot of details just yet, but you can bet iHorror will be following the story closely, and will share new details as we receive them.
