Anticipation surrounding the new Child’s Play reboot has been mixed. Some fans are firmly in the “how dare you” camp, while others are eager to see a new take on the classic killer doll.
We caught a first teaser trailer back in February, but a brand new trailer has just been released. So whatever side you land on, here’s something new to get you riled up.
We’ve previously learned that the “Best Buddi” doll (formerly known as “Good Guy”) comes with updated interactive technology that sounds primed for malicious use.
A Best Buddi boasts new “smart” technology like the doll’s ability to “learn from human interaction” with its “20 sensors and cameras which provide detailed realtime information about its environment”. The doll “utilizes state of the art sensor designs which provide high resolution image recognition and grip sensitivity” and “can comprehend inflection, tonality and subtle variations in the human voice”.
So it can tell when you’re lying and choke you out for it. Cool. Let’s see how that works out for Andy and his mom.
The legendary Mark Hamill is lending his acting talents to the sinister toy, stepping into the role made famous by Brad Dourif’s cackling repartee. Anyone familiar with Hamill’s voice acting work as the Joker on Justice League Action will trust that he has just the right crazed tone to pull this off.
Directed by Lars Klevberg, Child’s Play also stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry, and Tim Matheson.
The film will hit theaters on June 21. In the meantime, check out the new trailer below!
