Netflix is definitely serving up treats over tricks for Halloween today with a brand new trailer for The Witcher that has us on the edge of our seats!
Based on the writings of Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher tells the story of Geralt of Rivia who in Sapkowski’s own words is a beast hunter who developed supernatural abilities at a young age who travels the countryside destroying beasts and wild monsters.
The wildly popular dark fantasy books have previously been adapted into graphic novels, a film, video games, table top role playing games, card games, and a Polish television series titled The Hexer.
Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) will assume the mantle of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series alongside Freya Allen (The War of the Worlds), Eamon Farren (Winchester), MyAnna Buring (The Descent), Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards), and Joey Batey (The White Queen).
Cavill seems an excellent choice for the role and we can’t wait to see what he brings to it. He reportedly went so far as to decline a stunt double for the series so that viewers would know without doubt that everything they see him do is actually him rather than just acting the role and tagging in someone else for the dangerous bits.
The Witcher is set to debut on December 20, 2019, and from the looks of the trailer, we definitely have a lot of monsters, epic battles, and magic to binge! The release date is also far enough out that you have time to read up on the characters or even play (or replay) one or two of the video game adaptations while you wait!
