We finally got our first teaser trailer for The Nun earlier this week, and now fans have three months to go before Valak’s bone-chilling stare hits theaters once again. But we may have just the thing to tide you over! It turns out, The Nun actress Bonnie Aarons has a bad “habit” of scaring the hell out of people. (Can’t resist a good nun-pun.)
Bonnie Aarons (The Conjuring 2, Muholland Dr., Drag Me to Hell) is one of those horror chameleons, like Javier Botet and Doug Jones, who have haunted us for years without many fans even realizing it. She has made us cover our eyes not just in feature films, but short films as well.
I love finding new short films to consume on Vimeo and YouTube, and have a particular obsession with watching horror shorts. (Something I have regrettably done many late nights before bed.) While digging into Bonnie Aarons’ filmography, I discovered I had seen the actress a few years back in a creepy short film called The Closet before she made her terrifying appearance in The Conjuring 2!
The Closet is a short film directed by Drew Daywalt and produced by Daywalt Fear Factory. The 3-minute horror vignette depicts two daughters who hide in their mom’s bedroom closet ready to jump out for a birthday surprise. Unfortunately, they’re the ones who receive a shocking surprise. If you like David F. Sandberg’s (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) short films, this will be right up your alley.
Aarons’ piercing eyes and striking features combined with terrifying makeup make her a presence you won’t soon forget in horror films. The moment I saw The Closet as part of her filmography, I instantly remembered her frightening character even though several years had past since I watched it. She’s just that memorable.
Before she was The Nun, Bonnie Aarons was The Mom. Watch the short film The Closet below:
The Nun is set to haunt theaters and your nightmares September 7th, 2018.
